Acoustic Guitar Open Tuning

Crazy 6-string acoustic guitar tunings – that WORK! =)?

Yo, pretty much *everybody* figures out you can drop either or both of your E strings down to D and have some new fun, but what about the more esoteric… what’s your favorite?

Please give them 6th string to 1st — you know –
standard tuning = E A D G B E,
so a standard open D tuning = D A D F# A D
(not really a crazy tuning, but one of my favorites–throws the dadgad’ers for a loop!)
…wow…there are either almost no guitar players here or alternate tuning here is virtually unknown! At least I got one fun answer. And that first guy–sorry to hear you’re not into experimentation–I have no idea why you were compelled to announce that for this question. I suppose you’re better than Segovia ever was, and if only Kottke knew, he’d be begging you for pointers… just to name a couple who have used alternate tunings.

BDDDDD

That’s the tuning that’s used in the song “Iris” by the Goo Goo Dolls. It’s so ridiculous to change the tuning to…

The B-String is tuned up to a D, while the rest are tuned down. It makes the low E really loose, but it actually sounds pretty cool.

It's never too early to turn your children on to the wonderful world of making music. As research has shown, children who play instruments are generally more sociable, have higher self-esteem, and on average, earn better grades. Not to mention the fact they really learn to appreciate more music and have a more open mind to different styles after mastering any instrument. My Acoustic Guitar is an educational program designed for kids ages 6 and up to get the hang of one of the most popular instruments out there. The fun interface uses an animated character named Gary the Guitar who brings to life the music lessons of Kevin Garry, Ph.D, in a way that will keep them interested. Starting with the basics of tuning and learning chords, the CD-ROM goes on to more advanced sessions where kids will learn to read music and eventually play full songs. Gary the Guitar isn't the only animated aspect of My Guitar. There's also an animated fretboard that shows your child exactly where to put their fingers as the live recorded audio plays. The speed of the music can be adjusted with MIDI tracks, so kids can learn at a pace more comfortable to them. Other special features include an automatic tuner, metronome, chord dictionary, and digital recorder. Get your child started on the pathway to proper plucking with My Acoustic Guitar.

Martin D15M Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar

Martin D15M Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar

$1149

The Martin D15M acoustic guitar looks like it came right out of the history books, and delivers a sound for the ages. In its 175-year history, Martin has set more guitar design trends than can be counted. The company still embraces design techniques introduced many years ago to create their guitars' timeless tone. Built on a dreadnought platform, the Martin D15M guitar boasts 14 open frets for a unique design and great range of tone. The top, back, and sides are genuine solid mahogany, offering strong guitar tone, with crisp, clear subtleties in each note's definition. One of mahogany's finest qualities is its density. Although it's not the hardest tonewood, it is free of air pockets and other deformities. The vintage sound produced by the Martin D15M acoustic guitar is reminiscent of the Style 15 Martin guitars made popular during the 1940s. The Martin guitar is equipped with a mortise and tennon neck joint, offering the best wood binding practice ever conceived. Often used for shipbuilding, the process fuses 2 pieces of wood into a single, sturdy unit that stands up to the elements time and time again. The results are evident with the strength in tone and power in projection that you hear with each strum of this Martin acoustic guitar. The Martin guitar's solid mahogany neck further complements the crisp, defined acoustic sound of this dreadnought. The bridge and fingerboard are solid East Indian rosewood, adding smooth sustain to the mix. The 14 open frets, 1-11/16" nut width, 2-1/8" bridge string spacing, and 16" radius add comfort for your intricate fingerboard movements. Other appointments include a single-ring rosette, bone nut, solid/square taper headstock, solid East Indian rosewood headplate, diamonds and square fingerboard inlay, belly-style bridge, nickel open-geared tuning machines with butterbean knobs, and a solid black ebony bridge and end pins. Dressed in a soft satin finish and featuring a Delmar tortoise color pickguard, the Martin D15M guitar glows with classic vintage looks and sound. Includes a Martin 345 hardshell guitar case.
