Acoustic Guitar Making Process

Is there any online tutorial about home recording and sound engineering?

I’m looking for different ways to process raw sounds (vocals and acoustic guitar mainly) in order to make them more appealing and/or more suited for a certain genre. I don’t have any professional software but so far I experimented with Goldwave, Multiquence (for multitrack mixing), and Adobe Soundbooth.
Is there any online tutorial explaining (preferably in layman terms) how to achieve certain effects? For example, what type of effect (and in what amount) to add to raw vocals in order to get it to sound like Elvis’s In the ghetto, or Beatles’s Yesterday?
Adjusting echo and reverb parameters randomly doesn’t seem to do the job for me no matter how much I experimented. Maybe a combination of reverb/echo and something else does the job… any ideas?

I don’t think there is anything online that would do the trick.

But you certainly can buy tutorial books for certain software. I’d recommend looking at Cubase, Pro Tools, or Tracktion. They are pretty well known softwares in the music industry and are used by many professional studios. So for these softwares there are a lot of tutorial books with DVD’s included that show how to alter tracks and add effects.

As for getting the specific sounds you are looking for, I’m not familiar with those. But be aware that there are more effects than just delay and reverb. Also EQ’s are really big when tweaking vocals.
